Opening reception for Darkish Into Mild being held at Headwaters Gallery on Feb. 18

ALTON – Headwaters Arts second members’ present of 2023 is titled Darkish Into Mild and presents a shocking and visceral, visible commentary and expertise of overcoming darkness as interpreted by 27 artists from throughout the Headwaters area and GTA.

The 40 chosen items on exhibit embrace embrace works in quite a lot of mediums: oil, watercolour and acrylic work, tender pastels, textiles, fibre, encaustic/combined media, oil & chilly wax, alcohol ink/combined media and paper/combined media.

Taking part member artists are: Agnes Bellegris, Alina Lloyd, Anita Pietras, Carol-Ann Michaelson, Carole Watson, Christine Schubert, Christine Thammavongsa, David Courtney, Deb Menken, Deborah Powell, Edward Clark, Emily Graetz, Haley Marfleet, Iris Ranieri, Jaime Nevitt, Jennifer Brighton, Julie Park, Karen Brown, Lorraine Roberts, Lynn Gilbank, Marnie Cooke, MaryLou Hurley, Nancy MacNabb, Pat Hertzberg, Sara Petroff, Suzanne Walsh and Vanessa Sica.

Agnes   Bellegris   is   an artist   who   cherishes   the interaction of sunshine and darkish and  the  vibrant  areas we  occupy.  Her  instruments  are brushes, pallet knives and her fingers.

“With  each layer of color, I carry to life a vibrant and energetic topic we’d need to be in or with.  Be it a beloved pet, an idyllic scene or a vibrant bouquet,  my  aim is to impart  pleasure, serenity or maybe nostalgia within the motive of how,” Bellegris said in a press launch.

For Alton artist Jaime Nevitt, the theme for this  present  had a deep emotional connection for her  as a result of of the  current demise  of her Mother.  Her work is about transitioning from the darkness of grief to the gentle of life.  

“It’s about survival and continuance, figuring out there  is  gentle  and brightness following darkly weighted days,” Nevitt said within the launch.

 “The Darkish of Night time represents the blanket of darkness after the storm, when all is quiet. Peace ensues bringing with it the sunshine.”

Meet the artists on the official opening reception to be held on Feb. 18 from 1-3pm on the Headwaters Gallery within the Alton Mill Arts Centre (1402 Queen Road West).
